Day 12 - 40 Days in the Word

The greatest among you will be your servant. For those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted - Matthew 23:11-12

In the 23 chapter of Matthew's Gospel, Jesus warns of hypocrisy.  As we read this passage, we may be thinking what hypocrites the Pharisees were and, perhaps, are appalled at their behavior - thinking we would never do what they did.  However, there are times in our lives when we too are hypocrites.  Let us be mindful of the possibility of hypocrisy in our lives and ask our Lord to reveal to us areas where we may be hypocritical.

Prayer:  Father, we ask that You search our hearts and reveal to us any hidden sin that we need to examine.  We ask that in Your grace, You would lovingly show us areas where we too have been hypocritical.  We ask that You forgive us and lead us anew in a path that recognizes this tendency and seeks to choose instead to see that we are all broken and in need of a savior.  In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
