Day 16 - 40 Days in the Word: God's mercy and forgiveness

In today’s 40 Days in the Word devotional, we reflect on both the reality of our sin and the incredible mercy of God. In Micah 7:9 and Micah 7:19, we see that although we have sinned, the Lord promises to forgive and cast our sins into the depths of the sea.

I will bear the indignation of the Lord, Because I have sinned against Him, until He pleads my case and executes justice for me. He will bring me forth to the light; I will see His righteousness. Micah 7:9 (NKJV) Who is a God like You, pardoning iniquity and passing over the transgression of the remnant of His heritage? He does not retain His anger forever, because He delights in mercy. He will again have compassion on us, and will subdue our iniquities. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea. Micah 7:18-19 (NKJV)

What Do Micah 7:9 and 7:19 Teach Us About God’s Mercy?

The truth is that we all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.  We all are deserving of God’s wrath.  However, in His kindness and mercy He made a way of escape for us – the way of His beloved Son and His shed blood for us.  Jesus is the true Light of the world and it is because of Him that we are righteous. Jesus Christ is our righteousness.

Prayer:  Thank You, Lord, for Your kindness and Your mercy. We thank You that when we put our hope and trust in You as our Savior, our sins our forgiven.  We thank You that you do not treat us as our sins deserve - as far as the east is from the west so far have You removed our transgressions from us. We ask that you would keep this truth ever before us so that we can truly appreciate the gift that we have in You. We ask this in Jesus' precious name, Amen.
