Faith is at the heart of the Christian life. Throughout Scripture we see men and women who trusted God even when they could not see how His promises would be fulfilled. In Hebrews chapter 11, often called the “Hall of Faith,” we are reminded that faith is not wishful thinking but confident trust in the character and promises of God.
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. For by it the elders obtained a good testimony. Hebrews 11:1-2 (NKJV) But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV)

What does it look like to trust God when you cannot yet see how He will work?
God’s Word tell us that it is by grace we have been saved – through faith, which is a gift from God. We have to exercise this faith, though. As the scriptures above mention, the elders were commended for their faith and without faith it is impossible to please God. Jesus talks about the importance of faith, and that when we have real faith, mountains can be moved. We often encounter mountains in our lives or things that seem impossible. However, our God is the God of the impossible. Let us stand firm in our faith. Our Lord and Savior tells us, “Everything is possible for one who believes.” (Mark 9:23)
Prayer: Father, we thank You for your gift of faith. We ask that You would strengthen our faith in You. Just as the man who brought his son to be healed by You, Lord, said that he believed but asked that You would help him overcome his unbelief, we too ask that You would help us to overcome our unbelief wherever it exists. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
