Day 19 - 40 Days in the Word: Justified by Faith

One of the most powerful truths in the Christian faith is that we can be declared righteous before God—not because of our own goodness, but because of what Jesus Christ has done for us. The apostle Paul explains in Romans that through the death and resurrection of Christ, those who believe in Him are justified and brought into peace with God.

He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification – Romans 4:25; “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ”  – Romans 5:1

What does it mean for you personally to know that you are justified before God through faith in Jesus Christ?

Wow, we have been justified before the God of the universe because we believe in His Son, Jesus Christ, and accept his sacrifice for the payment of our sins! Really, that’s all it takes to be justified before God?  The answer is an astounding, “Yes!” His Word tells us that righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe (Romans 3:22).  Our God is a just God, and sins that are committed cannot be unpunished.  However, because of His mercy and love, our Savior paid the price for our sins and allows us to be seen by God as righteous because He sees His righteous Son when he looks at us who believe in His Son.  Because of this justification, we can have assurance of our salvation. Once we accept His free gift of justification and salvation, He can start to do the work in us that makes us become more like His son in our words, thoughts and deeds – the process of sanctification.

Prayer:  Lord, we thank You that because of Your Son and our belief in Him, we are justified before You.  We ask that You help us to never minimize the importance of this amazing gift.  We ask that, through Your Holy Spirit, we will be able to see our lives the way You see them and that we will accept the guidance You give us in order to make us into the people You would have us become. In Jesus' name we pray, Amen.
