Day 5 - 40 days in the word

The fear of the LORD is pure, enduring forever.  The decrees of the LORD are firm, and all of them are righteous.  They are more precious than gold, than much pure gold; they are sweeter than honey, than honey from the honeycomb.  By them your servant is warned; in keeping them there is great reward - Psalm 19: 9-11.

For the unbeliever, the fear of the Lord is the fear of the judgment of God and eternal death - separation from God.  For the believer, the fear of God is something different.  Believers are not to be afraid of God.  We have His promise that nothing can separate us from His love (Romans 8:38-39), and we have His promise that He will never leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).  However, we are to be in awe of Him and have reverence for Him.  Fearing God is respecting Him, obeying Him, submitting to His correction, and worshiping Him in awe.

Prayer:  Lord, we stand in awe of You!  We thank You that You are mighty and holy and that Your ways are righteous.  We ask that You continue to plant Your Word in us so that we will know how to live a life that is pleasing to You.  We ask this in Jesus' name, Amen.
