For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God’s people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit] of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. – Ephesians 1 15-19.

What an amazing prayer that Paul is praying on behalf of his friends. First, he prays that they be given the Spirit of wisdom and revelation that they may know Him better. We too need this prayer. Second, he prays that the eyes of their hearts may be enlightened so they would know the hope in which He called them, the riches of His inheritance for His people (us who believe) and the power we have through Him as believers. We have so much as Christians – those who call Jesus Christ their Lord and Savior – and yet we often are blinded to these blessings and riches. We too need to pray for others, and ourselves, these things that Paul prays so that we will be able to live the victorious life our Savior would have us live.
Prayer: Lord, we thank You for Your Word and for this prayer of Paul’s that is a powerful prayer for all of us in any age. We too want to know You better and want the eyes of our heart to be open and in tune with all that You’ve done for us, prepared for us, and the power that you extend to us as your followers. We pray for more and more understanding and knowledge of You – our greatest treasure, our King of kings and Lord of Lords! We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus, Amen.
