Life often feels full of worries about the future—finances, relationships, responsibilities, and countless “what ifs.” Yet Jesus gives us a simple but profound instruction: seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. Instead of allowing tomorrow’s concerns to consume our thoughts, Jesus invites us to focus our hearts on God today. When our priority is His kingdom—His ways, His purposes, and His presence—we can trust that He will take care of what we need. Our peace is found not in controlling the future, but in trusting the One who already holds it.
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.– Matthew 6:33-34

There are many cares in this world. There are troubles as well. However, our Lord told us that if we seek Him and the ways of Him (His Kingdom) and His righteousness, which is only found in Him, we will have all we need. Our loving God provides for us in all the ways we need – both physical and spiritual. It’s amazing how we see this so clearly when we put our trust in Him when the world would give us every reason not to. We’re going to have concerns, but it’s what we do when these concerns arise that make the difference. Do we trust in our God who can provide all things or do we get overwhelmed by the cares of the world and operate in unbelief?
What worries about tomorrow tend to capture your thoughts, and how might intentionally seeking God’s kingdom today change the way you face those concerns?
Prayer: Father, we thank You that you are our Provider, our Comforter. Help us to rest in the security we have in You. We are to cast our anxieties on You because You care for us. Help us to remember this truth and to rest in the peace of knowing that we can’t be any safer or in a better place than resting in our faith and trust in You. We ask this in Jesus' name, Amen.
