It is easy to place our trust in people—leaders, loved ones, or those we admire. But Scripture reminds us that while people will inevitably fail us, the Lord alone is perfectly faithful and worthy of our complete trust.
Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD, my soul. I will praise the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live. Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing. Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD their God. He is the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them— he remains faithful forever. – Psalm 146: 1-6

There are so many reasons for us to give praise to the Lord. He is our Creator, our Redeemer, the One who gives us eternal life. He is the One who will never leave us or forsake us. Humans will fail us – guaranteed. Even those most dear to us, will fail us at some point. We get let down, disappointed, frustrated, sad, etc. when this happens. However, let this be a reminder to us that our trust should be in the Lord alone, and He is faithful!
Where might you be placing too much trust or expectation in people instead of looking first to the Lord?
Prayer: We thank You, Lord, that You are faithful forever! Because we are in a broken, sinful world, no one can be that perfect person for us. Only You can fill the void we are so longingly looking to fill. Help us to be thankful for the relationships You’ve put in our lives while recognizing when we may be expecting too much from these relationships. Help us to continually look to You as our source of grace, strength, wisdom, peace, and mercy so that we can offer grace and mercy to the ones who are in our lives. We ask this in Jesus' name, Amen.
